New financing models for energy efficiency refurbishments in the social housing sector
While social housing accounts for most of the housing stock in Denmark, it is still a challenge to find financing for renovation projects, not least, energy renovation projects. SUPER-i, an EU funded project, contributes to solving this problem by:
-
establishing direct dialog between representatives from the social housing sector, financing institutions, and ESCOs (Energy Service Companies), and
-
collecting data about investment opportunities and developing financing schemes for energy efficiency refurbishments.
Together with the Danish Association of Social Housing Organizations (BL – Danmarks Almene Boliger) and partners in five other European countries (Belgium, England, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain), EGC will contribute not only to the development of a SUPER-i guidebook and portal, but also to the development of capacity building and replication activities, aimed at empowering social housing organizations, financial institutions, and ESCOs.
When SUPER-i is completed, in the fall of 2024, we will have concrete financing models for energy renovations in the social housing sector. This will not only be available for use in the development of green cities across Denmark, but contribute to the implementation of the European ‘Green Deal’, and reaching the target of making the EU climate neutral by 2050.
